Offering Whole-Person Care through Telemedicine

Getting employees to engage with their healthcare benefits can be a challenge, but telemedicine can help. Teladoc provides solutions via telemedicine along with programs for health management, empowering employees to take their health into their hands and utilize the benefits offered. Thinking about whole-person care, including financial health, mental health, and traditional healthcare creates a more balanced, effective person which benefits employers and employees alike.

SAP, a software company, has been using health programs available through Teladoc, with 86% of employee usage. Thirty seven percent of SAP employees are enrolled in multiple offerings, and chronic condition management has increased exponentially, with 70% of users with diabetes managing their health better than before, and 82% of users improving or maintaining their blood pressure.

Thinking about whole-person health is a priority for SAP. Teladoc facilitates that by being a platform for employees to talk with primary care physicians, find specialists, etc., so that workers can find and access healthcare all in one convenient place. Having one healthcare access point reduces anxiety for employees and allows them to access all of their healthcare benefits from the comfort of their homes.

Teladoc also offers a mental health component, offering therapy sessions for employees without having to go to a physical appointment. Chronic diseases are often paired with mental health problems, so promoting mental health advocacy for people dealing with chronic problems such as diabetes or hypertension is great for whole-person care.

Giving employees options is key in providing whole-person care that gets utilized. Through telehealth options, employees are able to see whether the doctor is male or female, what languages they speak, their religious beliefs, etc. before choosing a physician. This allows workers to feel more comfortable choosing a doctor, and allows employees to find the right fit for them.
