Telemedicine Platform Cove Offers Migraine Support
The American Migraine Foundation found that almost 39 million people are suffering from migraines, which ranks them as the third most common illness worldwide. However, stigma along with misunderstandings of this condition means that most of the workforce isn’t getting the support or treatment they truly need.
Having a migraine isn’t just having a headache. In fact, it’s considered to be a chronic disease, according to Neil Parikh, chief medical officer at Thirty Madison (a telehealth platform). Migraines pose a huge loss to productivity and are the leading cause of days off due to disability at work. In fact, 50% of staff with migraines say it’s the main thing holding them back in their careers, with 30% saying they have turned down job opportunities because of their concern that migraines would affect their work performances.
Migraine symptoms can be debilitating, with the average migraine lasting between 4-72 hours. There are also phases within the condition, such as pre-headache, fatigue, light sensitivity, and vision loss before or after the migraine, and during the migraine many report to experience intense pain, nausea, anxiety, along with sound and light sensitivity and more.
Almost half of people who suffer from migraines don’t have any access to a specialist or care. Cove, a telehealth platform that helps people manage migraines, hopes to change that. The platform provides medication management, and works with patients to build holistic plans for treatment. This not only includes medications, but can include lifestyle interventions, cognitive behavioral therapy for migraine management, and more. Cove is a part of the Thirty Madison umbrella telemedicine platform, which offers allergy treatment, reproductive health treatments, dermatology, and more.
